Strengthening Training & Facilitation Skills
In-person Workshops for Local Health Departments

Summary
Local health departments (LHDs) needed enhanced capacity to deliver effective infection prevention and control (IPC) training to healthcare facility partners, moving beyond traditional didactic approaches to create engaging, participant-centered learning experiences.
What We Did
Designed and facilitated two interactive in-person workshops
Created participant-centered learning experiences emphasizing practice, peer learning, and hands-on application rather than traditional lecture formats
Developed comprehensive workshop materials, including facilitator guides, participant packets, interactive activities, and evaluation tools
Produced three supplementary resources to support ongoing LHD training efforts: Facilitators' Guide template, Training Preparation Checklist, and Adult Learning/Facilitation Reference Guides
Results
Achieved 91% overall evaluation response rate across both workshops with excellent participant engagement
95% of participants agreed that the learning objectives were met across all workshop activities
Participants reported high value and practical application, with consensus on using interactive techniques like Bingo cards, improving engagement strategies, and sharing learnings with colleagues
Created sustainable resources that LHDs can use independently to enhance their training delivery to healthcare facilities
Demonstrated the power of peer learning, with participants consistently highlighting connections with other LHDs as the most valuable aspect of the experience
