Technical Assistance for Equity-Informed Infection Prevention

A Comprehensive Program for Local Health Departments

Summary

Six local health departments needed support to implement equity-informed approaches to infection prevention and control (IPC) in healthcare facilities.


What We Did

  • Provided 6 months of comprehensive technical assistance 

  • Facilitated 5 Community of Practice calls with themed learning and accountability buddy pairings

  • Conducted 18 one-on-one coaching calls 

  • Provided 30+ hours of targeted technical assistance tailored to individual needs

  • Created 12 new resources, including prioritization tools, partnership roadmaps, and reporting templates

  • Supported the development of 6 communication products with templates and review


Results

  • All 6 health departments successfully implemented equity-informed IPC approaches tailored to their local contexts

  • Departments shifted from reactive crisis-only communication to ongoing healthcare facility partnerships

  • Health departments developed innovative solutions, including equity scoring systems, comprehensive data frameworks, and rural-appropriate toolkits

  • Established sustainable foundations enabling departments to continue equity-focused work beyond the grant period

  • 77 virtual community interactions fostered peer learning and collaboration
